چکیده

Pancreas gets affected by fibrosis associated with aging. This study analyzed the age-related fibrotic changes in the exocrine as well as endocrine system of the pancreas. After obtaining necessary ethical clearances 30 post-natal and adult pancreases were collected and processed to obtain resin-embedded sections for transmission electron microscopy and paraffin-embedded sections for H and E staining and light microscopy. The sections were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. It was observed with ageing, the ductal epithelial cytoplasm contained many lipoid bodies. The basal lamina and the connective tissue around ducts increased. Periductal fibrosis appeared during fourth decade in Indian population whereas it appears sixth decade in Europeans. There was a direct correlation between area of the ducts and increasing age. Stellate cells and centroacinar cells increased with aging. The cytoplasmic processes of the centroacinar cells covered the acini and ductal epithelial cells, indicating their important function. The centroacinar cells have a regulatory role in secretory process during normal and pathological conditions. Increased fibrosis was noted in and around the islets of Langerhans. Epithelial hyperplasia, papillary projections, and periductal fibrosis around small and medium sized duct started very early in Indian populations indicating the vulnerability to pancreatic diseases in the Indian population in early ages. © 2018 Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Light and electron microscopic study of the tongue in the White-eared bulbul (Pycnonotus leucotis)

The aim of the present study was to investigate the light and electron microscopic structure of the tongue in White-eared bulbul (Pycnonotus leucotis). Six adult White-eared bulbul (3 males and 3 females) in Shahrekord district were used in the investigation. Samples of the apex, body and root of the tongue were prepared routinely for light and electron microscopic study. Results showed that th...

Light and scanning electron microscopic study of the lingual structure in the budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus)

BACKGROUND: The tongue, which plays a very important role in food intake by vertebrates, exhibits significant morphological variations that appear to represent adaptation to the current environmental conditions of each respective habitat. OBJECTIVES: The aim of the present investigation was to investigate lingual structure in adult budgerigar. METHODS: Tongues of 12 adult budgerigars were used ...

Characterization of Copper-Manganese Oxide Catalysts and Their Precursors: Effect of Precipitate Aging upon the Structure and Morphology of Precursors and Catalysts

Copper-manganese oxide catalysts are prepared with an atomic ratio of Cu/Mn=2/1 using a coprecipitation procedure under air atmosphere. The time of aging, i.e., the time that precipitate remains in contact with the precipitating medium, has been varied from 0 (for unaged precursor) to 300 minutes and the effect of precipitate aging time in each atmosphere upon the structure and morphology of di...

The submandibular salivary gland microscopic morphology of the adult African giant pouched rat (Cricetomys gambianus, waterhouse-1840)

BACKGROUND: In the present study, the submandibularsalivary gland microscopic morphology of the adult Africangiant pouched rat was investigated. This study was carried out toprovide the basic histology of this organ in the giant pouched rat,to accompany the dearth of information of its microscopicarchitecture in the available literature. This becomes of evenhigher importance when considering th...

Electron Microscopic Radioautographic Study on the Protein Synthesis in the Pancreas of Aging Mice With Special Reference to Mitochondria

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to investigate the aging changes of macromolecular synthesis in animal cells. METHODS We studied 10 groups of mice during development aged from fetal day 19 to postnatal month 24. They were injected with 3H-leucine, a precursor for protein synthesis, sacrificed and the pancreatic tissues were taken out, fixed and processed for light and electron micros...
